What’s on – Byron Bay Surf Festival
Byron Bay Surf Festival 2019
This year, the annual Byron Bay Surf Festival will be held from 20th-24th February. The festival is a celebration of surf culture, as an expression, art and lifestyle. The festival includes events such as surfing, surf board shaping, art, music, film and yoga, and is held in various locations around Byron Bay.
This year, the festivities kicks off with a photo exhibit and short film, featuring special guest, Australian surfing legend and 1987 Pipe Masters winner Tom Carrol. The Women’s Panel held at the Beach Hotel on Friday 22nd February is set to be a hit, with Murwillumbah local and seven-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, four-time world champion from the US Lisa Anderson and Hawaiian long-board surfer and two-time WSL World Champion Kelia Moniz speaking. See full schedule below.
The festival also has a strong focus on the environment and aims to educate on sustainability, through like-minded vendors and special guests. A Deep Blue Event (waste free) and 1% For The Planet member, the event has a clear path towards reducing environmental and community impacts and is paving the way for future festivals and events in Australia and around the world to do the same.
The events vary between free and ticketed. To find out more about the festival, visit www.byronbaysurffestival.com.au.
